I continue to edit my old images for the photo album that I intend to produce. This will be a selection of photographs from my three trips to southern Utah in 2013, 2014, and 2015.
This is another image from our hike in Wire Pass. At this point the trail leaves the slot canyon and it opens up to this large space. As we continued along the trail it entered another short section of slot canyon, which then later opened up at the confluence with Buckskin Gulch.
I shot this image on a sheet of Kodak Tri-X Pan 320, rated at 400 iso and given plus development in PMK developer. I took this shot on October 17th of 2013, at about 1:00 in the afternoon. I used my Ebony view camera and a 125mm lens. A #58 Green filter was used to create some separation in the red sandstone. The exposure was for 1/60 second at F22.0.
I was joined on this hike by my friends Rob and Brad. The trail actually exits the upper slot canyon from that narrow little cleft in the rock, near the center of the image. In some spots along the way the trail was so narrow that I could barely squeeze through with my camera back back. At one point there was a ledge about five feet high, but someone had placed a log there, making it easy to get over. Of course we not only had to go down, but on our return trip also had to climb back up. We tried to imagine the waterfall that must have roared over this ledge when a flash flood occurred. Presumably that's how the log got there...?
