Last fall Arturo and I cut up all the plywood and foam for the shipping/storage crates for our Apparitions project. We assembled the crates and essentially had them ready. The materials were funded under the Edmonton Arts Council grant that I was awarded. Later still in the fall I ordered the aluminum angles, HDPE skids, and coroplast dividers for the crates. These were supplied by the company that I used to own and operate, Mac Plastics Ltd. The new management team were gracious enough to give me a discounted price on these supplies. I also ordered the nylon straps that are used to hold the crates shut. Each crate will contain eight of the framed prints for our exhibition project. There are a total of four crates, to house all 32 of the prints.
It was too cold to work on these in the unheated workshop at my Mom's acreage over the winter months. With the recent mild weather this spring, and with the deadline quickly approaching, I finally got around to finishing up the crates. Arturo was away in Argentina this spring, so I finished them up on my own. All the aluminum angles were drilled, countersunk and screwed on. The skids and straps were also attached. With this part of the project now complete we can move on to our final print selection and assembly of the frames.
