Playing in the Snow

On April 22nd, while I was out at Nordegg, I took a day trip.  This was right after the big snow event of Easter Monday.  The snow was relatively short lived and by the end of the day on the 22nd, much of it was gone.  But, we got close to 8 inches of fresh snow, on top of what had fallen the two days prior [and mostly melted].
I waited until early afternoon, when it warmed up and then headed out with both my 4x5 and 8x10 view cameras.  I started out up by Beaverdam Lake on Shunda Creek.  I saw a loon there, and took a couple of shots with both of the big cameras.
Later I moved on to Shunda Creek, closer to the subdivision.  There was still fresh snow, and some cool ice patterns in the creek.  Much of the creek was still frozen, and there was only open water in a few places.
After that I continued further west to Dry Haven Creek.  I saw a spruce grouse here, but couldn't get a photograph of it.  I did take a couple of shots of some old timbers from the wooden highway bridge that was abandoned many years ago.  The asphalt shingles on the cook shelter kind of intrigued me as they was as weathered as a pair of old boots.
On the way back to the cottage I spotted a solitary Sandhill Crane down in the ditch.  I didn't have my digital camera with me, and large format was not an option, so I only got a couple of phone snapshots of it.  The images were pretty grainy and ugly due to zooming in, but it is definitely recognizable as a crane.
