This is the image I selected for the May page of my 2025 David Thompson Country calendar. There are still a handful of copies of this calendar left at the Beehive Artisan Market in Nordegg.
This is the lower falls of the Ram River, in the Ram Canyon. This is along the Forestry Trunk Road, south of Nordegg.
I shot this one way back in 2011. At that time I was still young(ish) and limber and packed around my huge, heavy Sinar F1 4" x 5" monorail camera. The pack that I carried it around in weighed about 45 pounds, as I recall, not including the heavy wood tripod. It was only a short time later that I retired this camera to my home studio, and started using a much lighter Ebony wood field camera.
This particular shot was taken with a Nikkor 150mm lens. It was taken on a sheet of Kodak Tri-X Pan 320, rated at 320 iso and developed in PMK. I shot this on July 31st of 2011, at about 4:45 in the afternoon. A #22 Orange filter helped to boost the contrast a little.
