We repeatedly get suggestions from people, both in person and online, about the Rosedeer Hotel in Wayne. Everyone thinks that the Beer Parlour Project should pay it a visit. It is certainly an interesting old building that at first glance appears ideal for our project. But in actual fact we have purposely been avoiding it. During the summer months at least, it is a tourist attraction. Although the building itself is historically very interesting, the clientele are not locals. Mostly they are just tourists passing through, so this really does not fit with the mandate of what our Beer Parlour Project is all about. We want to visit with the locals, get a feel for the place, and learn about its attachment to the community. Obviously this is something that tourists are not able to offer.
But we have been getting so many comments and suggestions that it seems we just have to pay the place a visit. On Sunday after the Springfest, Margarit and I stopped by. I took some photos of the exterior of the building, both with my phone, and with my view camera. The snapshot below is one that I shot with my phone.... stay tuned for the large format images. We will be posting one of these in the "Just 1 Beer" section of the BP website. Check out our website at www.beerparlourproject.com Hopefully this puts some of the comments to rest.
But, we have decided that we need to pay the place a more formal visit, and have plans to do so. We will be waiting until the off season, when the tourists are largely gone, and hopefully there is a more local crowd in attendance. No exact date has been established as of yet, but we expect to visit, assuming the owners permit us, in the fall or early winter of this year. Stay tuned...
