We got a couple of inches of fresh snow overnight on January 28th. During the day on the 29th, it was quite mild. Then beginning on the afternoon of the 30th, more snow rolled in. The forecast is calling for it to snow off and through the evening of 30th and most of the 31st. We are supposed to get a cold snap for two or three days beginning on the first of February, with daytime highs around -20C and night time lows approaching -30. It seems unlikely that the groundhog will venture out to look for his shadow.
Winter has been pretty easy so far this year. We got snow in late November, and it stayed, and has been added to from time to time. But not really any excessive amounts, and temperatures have been mild. Mostly too mild, as it has led to a lot of melting and freezing rain and some icy conditions. My wife really struggles with the air pressure shifts of these chinooks rolling through and experiences headaches. We really only had one cold snap so far, and it was short lived. The one that is forecast to roll through this weekend, doesn't sound like it will be all that bad.
I attached a couple of snap shots of the fresh snow, taken on the morning of the 29th. My poor old truck sits out in front of the house, under a blanket of fresh stuff. I have started it a few times, but it hasn't been driven since the day after I broke my leg... December 18th. It is still sporting a load of road dirt from my last trip out to Nordegg, in early December.
My recovery is progressing slowly and I feel quite a bit better. I'm still bashing around the house on crutches, as I am not supposed to put any significant weight on my leg. I have an appointment to see my surgeon on February 10th and I'm hoping that after that I can ditch the crutches and start walking.
