Fort White Earth

Fort White Earth is a National Historic site that was officially recognized in 1976.  The site consists of  paired North West Company and Hudson's Bay Company trading and provision posts that operated between 1810 and 1813.  They were established within a single pallisaded structure located by the North Saskatchewan River.  The designated area is situated on approx. two hectares of land on the floodplain of the river.
While out on a day trip I was able to locate the site.  There were three old buildings in the woods at the edge of a steep river bank.  I don't believe this is part of the original fort.  These are old and in very poor condition, but do not match the description of the fort.  I suspect that these were later buildings, associated with the nearby farms.
The buildings are heavily overgrown and badly deteriorated. They are not particularly photogenic.  I think the site is worth a return visit to see if the original site can be located.  There is a apparently a historic plaque there, which we did not see on our visit.
