Winter Hockey - Game Eight

The Renegades played a late game last night... at 11:00 PM.  This was against the Chiefs, and was our second game since being moved up to a higher division.  We didn't do so well in our first one, getting throttled by the Banana Hammocks.  This one was a much closer game and we are beginning to believe that we will fit in here in Division Ten.  When the league undertakes divisional moves, they adjust the point standings of the team being moved, to the average of the division they are moving into.  Even though we were undefeated coming into Division Ten, we lost 8 of our 12 points and were averaged down to near the bottom of the standings with the move.  Losing that first game last week didn't help our cause.  This time around we out-chanced the Chiefs but by the end of the first period we still found ourselves down by a 2-0 score.  In the second period we started to turn things around.  I cycled a pass from the right point down behind the net.  One of our wingers picked it up there and threw it out into the slot to our center.  He had a couple of whacks at it and managed to pop in our first goal.  This was the start of our comeback.  We scored another in the second to tie the game, and then went ahead by two goals in the third.  They scored one more to make it close before we eventually scored an empty net goal to seal the deal with a 5-3 victory. We carried most of the play and ended up out-shooting them 46 to 26.  Hopefully this is the start of things to come in this division.
By the time we got off the ice, had a couple of beers, changed and drove home, it was 1:30AM.  It had been snowing lightly through the day, and by game time the snow was coming down pretty heavy.  There was more than an inch on the ground when I left the rink, and when I got up this morning there was several inches on the ground.  I guess winter has arrived.... damn....
