This is the image I selected for the September page of my 2021 Calendar. It is a shot of the Spreading Creek Burn, taken in 2020. This fire started in Banff National Park and burned out of the park, down the North Saskatchewan River Valley, towards the Kootenay Plains. I can't recall exactly what year the fire occurred, but about ten years ago. It was eventually extinguished once it got as far as Whirlpool Point. Its curious how erractically a fire burns. Some areas are totally devastated and there is nothing left standing. Other areas were scorched very quickly and the burnt trees remain. Yet other areas were passed over all together. Even all these years later it still makes for an interesting place to explore.
