Waterfowl Lakes Campsite is a beautiful spot. Unfortunately the Parks Canada staff only open the campsite from the 1st of July to Labor Day. It is situated along the Mistaya River, between Upper and Lower Waterfowl Lakes. This day was a family day and we spent it hanging around the campsite. Martina and Karl went for a hike to Cirque Lake. This is in the opposite direction of the Cephren Lake hike that we did the day before. This hike was a little longer and had more elevation gain so we thought it best to let them try it on their own, and not attempt it with the girls. Instead we had family picnics. We packed up some snacks and headed off to some favorite spots for a picnic. Anna, Helena and I went to a spot near the river and sat together on a fallen log in the woods. Then we headed down the river to the Lower Lake, and eventually over to the Big Rock. Hailey and her mom started out at the Big Rock and then made their way off to some other secret location.
Later in the afternoon I took a walk with my view camera to the Upper Lake. Hailey came along with me. As we hung around on the shore, waiting for the breeze to die down and the reflection to clear, Martina and Karl wandered over to check us out. We noticed that a cow moose and her calf had wandered out into the shallows at the far end of the lake. I managed a snapshot of them with my digital pocket camera, but they were quite some distance away. Later that evening we just hung out around the campsite and relaxed.
