Summer Hockey comes to an end...

Last Friday, July 4th, the Renegades played the last hockey game of the summer regular season.  We played on the larger international sized ice sheet at the Terwillegar Recreation Center.  We played against the Ice Kings, who were just ahead of us in the standings, and holding the last playoff spot.  It was a close hard fought game, once again subject to some questionable officiating.  We ended up winning the game by a score of 9-6, but it was not enough to secure a playoff spot.  We ended the regular season one point short of the last playoff spot.  We will now have a break of nearly 2 months before the winter season starts up in early September.  We have no one but ourselves to blame for falling short.  I had a lot of issues all season with getting enough players out to the games, and playing with some consistency.  We had backup goaltenders into a lot of our games, and played with a short bench numerous times.  We ended the season with a record of 5 wins, 9 losses and a tie.  I am now working on shoring up our roster for the upcoming winter season.  Players are being reminded that a full time commitment to the team means showing up for at least 80% of the games.  Some of our inconsistent players are being asked to step down from a full time roster spot, to playing as spares for next season.  Hopefully we can put a better effort together next year and contend for the divisional championship.
