I headed back out to Nordegg on June 20th. This time around I'm staying for an extended period of time, but intially at least, it is a solo trip. My neighbor was celebrating his 60th birthday on the night of my arrival. A bunch of friends and neighbors dropped by to wish him all the best. Sadly it was raining rather heavily, so everyone was huddled around the campfire, under umbrellas. We got 3/4 inch of rain that evening, so it was rather cold and wet.
The next day the heavy rain continued, and I spent my time indoors. We got over 1-1/2 inches of rain on Saturday June 21st... the first day of summer. On Sunday, we didn't get much more rain, just a few sprinkles, but it remained overcast and cool. On a couple of the evenings the overnight low temperature got down to single digits and on the 23rd it actually hit zero. On Monday things were looking up a little and the skies started to break. But showers rolled through off and on all day long and we got another 3/8" of rain.
On Tuesday the rains came to an end and things began to warm up and dry off. I managed to get out for a round of golf with my neighbor. Monday June 23rd was Margarit and my 24th wedding anniversary. We celebrated it apart. But she will be coming out to Nordegg to join me in a couple of days.
In between all the showers I managed to get out into the yard a couple of times and start working on some yard clean up. I still have log piles behind my garage that date back to the original clearing of our lot and construction of the main cottage. I've been slowly chipping away at this for years, but there remains a bunch of logs that I still need to deal with. I really need to get this split and stacked so it can dry and not rot away. We use the wood stove as our primary heat source when we are out at the cottage during colder weather. It is amazing how much wood can be burned up in a few days of cold temperatures.
These snapshots were taken on Sunday the 22nd, the first day that I tackled the wood pile. Since then I have split and stacked even more, and will continue with the task in the coming days.
