Three and Out...

The winter season has come to an end for my Renegades Hockey Team.  We played in Division 7 of the South Conference.  We didn't do all that well during the regular season, finishing in 6th place out of eight teams.  The team seemed to pull things together going into the playoffs.  We went through three playoff rounds, first against the Panthers, second against the Ducks and third against the Mooseheads, to win the Divisional Championship.
Then we headed to the Conference Championship and played against the team that won Division 7 of the North Conference.  The Padres were a good team, with a hot goaltender, and we just couldn't get it together.  We lost game 1 by a score of 5-2, though the last goal by the Padres was on an empty net right at the end.  The second game was a lot closer but we just came up a little short, losing 3-2.  The third game of the best of five series was on Sunday afternoon.  Our goalie had a shaky start and let in three goals on the first three shots.  We settled down after that and played a closer, tighter game, but could not overcome that early deficit and lost by a final score of 4-0.
So, as we see the winter season come to an end, we can be proud of our accomplishments within our division, but try to build on our loss in the conference final.  We now get a break from hockey for three weeks, until the summer season gets underway at the beginning of May.  More importantly, I can now wash my stinking hockey gear and shave this itchy beard that I've been growing through the playoffs.  Seems it helped our luck early on, but not at the end...
